South of Thanon Rama IV, the left bank of the river contains a full cross-section of places to stay. Tucked away at the eastern edge of this area is Soi Ngam Duphli, a small ghetto of cheap hotels and guest houses that is often choked with traffic escaping the jams of Thanon Rama IV. The neighbourhood is generally on the slide, but is close to Lumphini subway station and a lot handier for the downtown areas and the new airport than Banglamphu.
Some medium-range places, are scattered between Thanon Rama IV and the river, ranging from the notorious (the Malaysia) to the sedate (the Bangkok Christian Guest House). The are also lays claim to the capital’s biggest section of top hotels, which are among the most opulent in the world. Traversed by the Skytrain, this area is especially good for eating and nightlife. Staying the river itself of Thanon Charoen Krung, aka New Road, has the added advantage of easy access to express boats, which will ferry you upstream to view the treasures of Ratanakosin.
The area is quite nice and very often I am choosing to stay there. As sub-way is very close so technically can go to any major touristic area in Bangkok.
I think everybody that have been to Bangkok have pass at least once around Rama IV road. It is popular place and there is wide contrast between cheap guest houses and high rise upmarket hotels.
Unfortunately this area is also flooded this year. I pass a day ago, can not recognize anything.
This will be the first time when I will spend more than a day in Bangkok, probably I will visit this area.
A friend of mine recently bought apartment in this area and invited me. Actually I may visit him next weekend.
